Ahh…Saturday. What a relief to be here after a busy week. On this lovely Saturday, my wonderful husband is giving me the gift of some time alone while he and our children go out on the town for the day. As much as I love my role as a stay-at-home-homeschooling mama and am thankful that I have the opportunity to fulfill this dream of ours, I do so appreciate the times like today when the house is quiet and relatively clean and I can think in complete thoughts (without interruptions) during the daylight hours.
On my agenda for today is to put in an order to Mountain Rose Herbs for supplies for the homemade body products that we will be making next week. If you missed my post from a few days ago on the safety of skin care products, you can read it here. I will definitely keep you updated on the lovely things we make and share my favorite recipes. For some more reading on why you should care what skin care products you are using, here is another article about the Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo news story from this past week. Unfortunately this is not isolated. Toxic ingredients are in many products that are sold to be put on our skin. Be informed.
So, on to my favorite posts from the world of blogging this week. I’m trying to tame my voracious blog reading lately as I realized that I was running out of time in my day to keep up with everything I do in life, much less keep up with other people’s blogs. The problem is that there are so many amazing ladies out there who have so many great ideas that they so generously share on their blogs. So here are just a few from this past week that I think worthy of sharing with you all.
Simple Organic had a wonderfully refreshing reminder that lots of women need to hear. On The Truth About What I Don’t Do, Nicole comes clean on her imperfections and encourages her readers to do the same. It is so easy to get caught up in believing that other people have it all together and live out their ideals in everything they do, especially in our computer centered world where we get small glimpses into other’s lives and they all seem to be so perfect. We fret about how we don’t measure up and become discouraged, forgetting that people only share what they see fit to share…and it usually isn’t their dirty laundry or unhealthy habits. People getting real…I like that.
I just love this article on fats from the Real Food Freaks. In fact, I just discovered their blog this week and I think it’s one of my favorites at the moment. Two women passionate about getting the word out about the importance of eating Real Food…their goal is to make change in their local areas, but their blog is packed full of great information and inspiration that everyone can benefit from.
I found this great article on hand sanitizers which includes a recipe for making a safer, homemade version. I have been making a recipe very similar to this one for the past year for my family (we use it sparingly though as I’d much prefer the old soap and water method) and I have to say I now cringe when someone offers my kids the store-bought stuff.
Want a lesson on the herbs so popular this time of year? Keeper of the Home, in 11 Herbs and Spices for the Holidays, talks about the benefits of certain herbs and spices and gives some great ideas on how to use them.
I could go on and on adding, but I’ll stop here. Happy reading to you and I hope you have a lovely, relaxing Saturday.
